Put A Deadline on Your Dreams

Its 2017! Have you taken the time to write your goals for the New Year? What is your vision  for this year. Have your visualized them and , wrote them down and gathered a picture that  represents what you want to manifest in your life. Turn your dream into a specific goal. Put a deadline on your dreams and do them.

Have you taken the time to write down the goals and steps you will take to achieve them? We do not want to have any “would’ a, should ‘a”, and could have regrets about not accomplishing our goals for this 2017 which represents overcoming and a year of victory. You may not have written your goals earlier, but it is not too late for “mapping out your goals for 2017”. You need to be specific and set a deadline to accomplish your goal

I am challenging you, myself too, to make that vision board and write your goals. I challenge you to write at least what three goals with a set deadline (but strive to write all of them as much as possible) you will set for this year and what actions will you take to achieve them.

“Goals are a must for any person who desires to accomplish something great. Planning is a part of the process of truly successful people.” Pam Perry. Creating goals is valuable for it helps one’s mind to focus upon the attaining of the thing desired until the goal is realized.

And it is well worth it to begin the New Year right. Goals can motivate and “catapult you in the direction of the attainment of fulfilling your dreams” Pam Perry.

What are goals? Simply put, goals are the stepping stones to reach a destination which you desire to fulfill. They serve as the plan, the how to, the path you need to walk, day by day, to the realization of that dream.

A goal is a target, the desired end of our efforts..

The Bible encourages us to write our goals. Isaiah 32:8 says, “The noble man makes noble plans.” Proverbs 16:3 promises, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.” We should have dreams and set goals to reach the dreams, but remember that God holds the authority to say “yea” or “nay”-veto power: “Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails”. (Proverbs 19:2)

Goals can be spiritual such as your desire to develop, improve, and seek an intimate relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ in prayer and study of His Word. God wants a relationship with you. We should press, stretch and get out of our comfort zones to maintain a prayer relationship with Him. It is the goal that will have eternal benefits. It is the goal that will give us power, wisdom and guidance about all of our other goals such as improving family relationships, getting out of debt, starting that business, writing that book, starting an exercise plan or healing relationship issues. Prayer is the key to unlocking God’s power in your life to carry out what God has placed in your heart.

Accordingly, goals can be broken up into categories such as spiritual, financial, personal relationships, health and business. We should remember to pray about our goals. I must remember, that while I plan, I know my future rests with the One who holds the master plan, so I , each of us, must always start and end with Jesus.

There is still time, forget about what you have not done so far. Begin right now praying and thinking about writing your goals for the year. Take the time to seek God’s face first, pray, and meditate on the Word. Listen to what He states to you and write it down. I find this helps me to accomplish the things that are important to me. Sir Isaac Newton, wrote, “All of my discoveries have been made in answer to prayer.”

Again my challenge to each of us is to take time to pray and write at least three goals you would like to accomplish this year. Dr. Deana Murphy, an award winning author and expert on life design wrote: “The key to writing goals is prayer. He gives us the desires of our heart—which are His desires. This is so important”. Indeed, “prayer is the key that opens the storehouse of God’s infinite grace and power”. R. A. Torrey

Some practical suggestions for setting your goals are as follows:

  1. Get a journal to write the goals in or a loose leaf notebook and divide the note book under the relevant categories. As Habakkuk 2: 1-4 records, we should “write the vision and make it plain…” so that “…he may run who reads it.” You should then list your goals under specific goal categories such as spiritual goals, educational goals, business/career goals, financial goals and personal goals or other focus areas pertinent to you.
  2. Freelance writer, online columnist and former stay at home mom for 15 years, Patricia Chadwick, suggests that you get away by yourself for a day in order to really think about the goals you want to set for you and your family without any distractions. Alternatively, establish 2 or 3 hour sessions until you complete your assignment if you are unable to do this for a day. Turn off the phone and television. Do not go on the Internet –especially Facebook. To set her goals she uses a loose-leaf notebook with a yearly calendar in it and breaks the notebook into 12 categories.
  3. Prayer warrior and writer, Cynthia Bezek, in the article “Plan to Grow” suggests that once your goals have emerged, consider each goal and find as many verses as you can to support that goal. Use the concordance to look up key words. Write relevant passages into your notebook. This process helped her to internalize what the Lord was teaching her.
  4. Write down promises you may need to rely on and “eat” them in order for God to accomplish each goal in your life.
  5. Write down specific action items you must undertake to accomplish your goal in a manner that will help you to measure your progress. Make the steps to the attaining of the goal as practical as possible.

Excerpt

Hope is My Birthright, Not A Feeling.

Emotions can become so intense and overwhelming that you will feel pulled undertow by the sheer weight of them. Sadness covers you, fear tracks your every step, frustration pushes against you, stress seems to smother you. You feel surrounded, backed into a corner. Your fight or flight response kicks in like wounded prey. No matter that nothing appears to have changed, or maybe BECAUSE NOTHING seems to have changed. Whatever the impetus, you feel the rhythm of your heart uptick as you paddle against the waves of hopelessness. Desperate to seek an intravenous injection of hope. You turn your head away from the world, and you go chasing after that feeling of relief, assuredness, security. Desperate to find respite from the noise of everyday life.

The Hebrew word for hope ‘batah’ has the meaning of confidence, security, and being without care; not the blasé unsure “I sure hope so” that we have come to toss out when we are tentative and unsteady to believe. One of the most famous scriptures known to believers and non, “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” (Hebrews 11:1) Shapes the formula for Christian hope and it’s necessary relationship to faith. When we know that our hope is birthed and secure in the confidence that comes when we have faith, certainty and no doubt, that God is watching over His Word, alert and attentive to perform it (Jeremiah 1:12) we fall victim to feelings of hopelessness less easily. Because we know that God has promised,

“So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it. For you will go out with joy And be led forth with peace: The mountains and the hills will break forth into shouts of joy before you, And all the trees of the field will clap their hands.” (Isaiah 55:11-12) our hope has firm roots in the promises of God.

Therefore hope is not an emotion or a feeling to be sought after. It is our reality. It is grounded in our certainty that God is who He says He is. That every promise is founded on the unshakable character of God. Unwavering, never changing, and oh so faithful. Don’t let the pull of circumstances, stress, and emotions succeed in perverting the truth of God. The definition of pervert means to alter (something) from its original course, meaning, or state to a distortion or corruption of what was first intended. The enemy of our very souls has endeavored to subvert, twist, and contort the authenticity of our birthright as children of God. It is his hope that we will be so deceived by external variables that we will go seeking for in the external what is inherent to our nature. Hope, peace, love, and an expected end through Christ Jesus.

Be encouraged that there is no situation, circumstance, or problem that will ever alter, shift, or change the promises of God for you. Don’t lose hope Beloved, our God is faithful.

I have been wearing my natural hair since 2007. I‘ve worn an afro, braided hair styles, twist and traditional locs . I currently wear sisterlocks. My natural hair journey is the inspiration behind my book Marvelous Are Thy Works.

When I am home, I don’t watch a lot of television. I spend time in prayer and meditation daily. I make the time and effort to commune with God.

What inspired you to write this book?
My inspiration behind Marvelous Are Thy Works is that I am passionate about the natural hair movement. I love empowering African American women to embrace and wear their natural hair. People of all races often asked me questions about my sisterlocks. I enjoy educating people about my natural hair.

Who are your favorite authors and why?? Favorite books?
I love to read non-fiction books by inspirational authors. I loved Bishop T.D. Jakes’s book called Reposition Yourself as it taught me how to heal from my past and to break generational curses while moving into my destiny.
One of my favorite fiction books is Kinky Gazpacho by Lori Tharps. Lori shared her experience living abroad in Spain and how the Spanish perceived her brown skin and kinky natural hair texture.

Tell us about your journey to publication.
I am a self published author. I worked hard on my project with the support of my editor. It took me two years to complete my novella.

When did you begin to realize you wanted to write?

I realize that I wanted to write when I was in high school. I excelled in my English classes since I was in the third grade. I contemplated majoring in journalism in college but instead I chose business. I took writing courses for my electives.

He hasn’t asked for her hand in marriage after dating her for over five years. Fatima has to stand on her faith and follow her instincts as makes decisions for her future.

Chapter 1
All Natural Hair Salon’s busiest time was the first weekend of the month. Fatima made it to the salon at ten o’clock that morning. After parking her car in front of the salon, she noticed Lauryn and Sheba were already inside. The front window shades were pulled back and the lights were on.
“Good morning, ladies,” Fatima said as she walked through the door.
“Good morning, Fatima,” Lauryn answered, while sashaying to her workstation in her high heels and locs pulled back into a lobster tail style. Always the diva, Lauryn appeared to be in a good mood and eager to work.
“Hey, girl, you finally made it in,” Sheba said as she sorted through her laundry bag of towels. Her hair was loose in a kinky and curly twist-out hairstyle. She was dressed comfortably in white skinny jeans.
“Are there any messages for me?” Fatima asked.
“A young lady called to make an appointment. She requested a low maintenance hairstyle.”
“What time did she call?” Fatima inquired.
“She called a few minutes before you walked in,” Lauryn replied. “She said her name was Danielle Evans.”
“Did she leave her phone number?”
“I put it on your desk,” she said.
Fatima continued to her station so she could check her itinerary for the day. It was unusually free. “I’ll just work a half day and meet up with my honey later,” she told her co-workers.
Fatima then sat in her chair and started daydreaming about the day she would become Mrs. Ephraim Okoye. She could not wait to see him.
“Ladies, what are your plans today?” Fatima questioned.
“I have a couple of appointments for locs retightening, and I got a new client scheduled this morning. He’s a chef and new in town.” Lauryn smirked while doing a shimmy with her shoulders to show her excitement.
“A new male client? Girl, you be pullin’ the men,” teased Sheba.
“I need to pull a husband.”
“Baby, I met my husband when I wasn’t even lookin’. I was minding my own business down at the Farmer’s Market and––”
Lauryn rolled her eyes. “Sheba, you’ve told that story so many times,” she said, cutting Sheba off and looking down at her iPad to show her disinterest in hearing it again.
Sheba walked over to Lauryn and tapped her on the knee with her forefinger. “When you least expect it, that’s when you’re gonna meet him. It happened to me, girl!”
“I wish God would hurry up and send him!” Lauryn snipped. “Most married people forget what it’s like to be single, so it’s easy for them to tell someone else to be patient.”
“That’s not true,” Sheba replied.
Fatima butted in. “Some women who are married have never had to experience being single for long.”
“Don’t you just hate that, girl?” Lauryn said. “Then they try to tell you to wait and have faith. Chile, please!”
