Praying for Our Nation Under God : National Day of Prayer by Linda Fegins

Today, May 3, 2012, is the 61st annual National Day of Prayer(NDP). Millions will unite in prayer at thousands of events from coast to coast. This year’s theme, One Nation Under God, is based on Psalm 33:12: “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.” Let us pray:

“Father in Heaven,
We lift our eyes toward Your Throne, where You reign in righteousness, Your Word assures us that when Your people cry out in sincerity and humility, You will never turn a deaf ear to us. We call upon you now, seeking Your forgiveness and favor….Drop knees to the floor and raise eyes in the sky for we know where our help comes from.” Part of “Prayer for the Nation” written by Beth Moore in 2009.

The NDP emphasizes prayer for America and its leadership in the seven centers of power: Government, Military, Media, Business, Education, Church and Family (I Timothy 2:1-6). Pray for each of the areas .For guidance in how to pray for these areas see https://ladyofprayer.com/?p=393

President Obama
has recognized the importance the role prayer has played in shaping the nation and its leaders. In discussing the National Day of Prayer last year in 2011, President Obama proclaimed:
“Let us be thankful for the liberty that allows people of all faiths to worship or not worship according to the dictates of their conscience, and let us be thankful for the many other freedoms and blessings that we often take for granted.
“I invite all citizens of our Nation, as their own faith or conscience directs them, to join me in giving thanks for the many blessings we enjoy, and I ask all people of faith to join me in asking God for guidance, mercy and protection for our Nation.”
Let us continue to pray for our nation in prayer gatherings and in our homes. God throughout His Word tells us to pray that He may heal our land. 2 Chronicles 7:14.

Legal and political attacks have been raised seeking the demise of this nation recognizing a National Day of Prayer. Last year was a significant milestone as on April 14, 2011 the 7th U. S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected a lawsuit that challenged the National Day of Prayer (NDP) as unconstitutional. The court overturned the April 2010 ruling by U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb, for the Western District of Wisconsin, that NDP violates the Establishment Clause of the United States Constitution. Two groups that represent a large percentage of atheists, the American Humanist Association and the Secular Coalition of America, seek to combat the National Day of Prayer by promoting the National Day of Reason, which is held on the first Thursday of May each year, the same day the National Day of Prayer is recognized. Rep. Pete Stark, a California Democrat, has sponsored a proclamation on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives giving his support to the cause and as an alternative for atheist Americans to celebrate “reason,” as opposed to prayer.

Continue to pray for our nation as the “prayers of righteous persons are powerful and effective”. James 5:16. The sovereign Lord listens to our cries, waits to intervene on our behalf and to deliver and transform the ills of our nation. (See e.g. Zephaniah 3:17). I believe that prayer is required and imperative for believers individually, and corporately as a nation, to pray continually throughout the year, not just on the National Day of Prayer. There is a need for faithful, preserving intercession for our leaders, government, families, education system, the legal system, churches, the armed forces and the media. Our prayers will impact generations to come if we continue to seek the Lord’s guidance and protection and be obedient to His Word.

Tebowing -Unashamedly by Delisha Easley

As we are all still making sure to stay in line with our goals let’s make sure we are achieving the correct goals. The worst thing is to pursue something only to find out it’s not for you. For example, when we major in Business Administration for three years only to find out our real passion is Education. We feel like we have wasted our time. The same is true when pursuing any goal financially, spiritually, or physically. I have found we often don’t pursue our true passions or goals because we are ashamed of them.
Tim Tebow is currently a great example of a young famous athlete that makes it quite clear what he has a passion for sharing his faith and football. However, he makes it clear that he wouldn’t be as highly favored in football if it wasn’t for his faith in Jesus Christ.

I can only imagine that when Tebow first begin praying on the field back in high school he was probably a little nervous about what others may think or say. He like many of us have decided NOT to be ASHAMED! Three questions to answer in order to live the UNASHAMED LIFE:
1. Does anyone know your true passion?
2. What do you want to be remembered by?
3. Are you making an impact?

I’m not sure what you are unashamed of so I’ll share what I used to be ashamed of:
1. Wanting to remain a virgin until marriage
2. Sharing my faith in Christ Jesus
Surprising I know!:) However, I believe often the things we are ashamed of is really the fear of what would happen if we really embraced our passions! Since overcoming these fears I’ve travelled the world sharing the love of Jesus Christ with thousands and have written a book Not Everyone is Having Sex

Scripture: “If anyone is ashamed of me and my message in these adulterous and sinful days, the Son of Man will be ashamed of that person when he returns in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.” (Mark 8:38, NLT)

Call to Action: Today do something you’re usually ashamed of. Make your mark!

Delisha Easley had the desire to serve and encourage others at the tender age of 12, when she began traveling on mission trips to places, such as Mexico, Guatemala, France, and England. Easley went on to receive her Bachelors of Science degree in Special Education from Oral Roberts University and Masters of Science in Psychology from University of Phoenix. Easley has recently become a certified life coach. She has been featured in the #1 Urban Christian lifestyle magazine, Gospel Today, as a topic of interest. Easley knew she was destined for a life-time of servant-leadership. Easley is brimming with passion for her generation, especially women from their adolescence into their early adulthood. Because of this passion, she has launched her own life coaching business called Destiny Lived Everyday Unlimited, LLC (DLE Unlimited) in Spring 2011. Her heart’s desire is to share her life experience, coupled with her education, to help influence other young people to achieve their own dreams and fulfill their purposes.

“Let’s Get Started: Take the Time to Pray and Write Your Goals”- Part III

As a result of Part I and Part II (https://ladyofprayer.com/?p=364) of “Let’s Get Started: Take the Time to Pray and Write Your Goals”, are you ready to get started? Have you prayed and sought the Lord about what goals He would direct you to achieve? Have you thought specifically about what you would like to accomplish over the next year and the action steps you will take to achieve your goals. As a prerequisite, this endeavor must begin with God in prayer, fasting, and meditation. Many people immediately jump to temporal concerns, such as getting out of debt, starting a business or losing weight. However, I suggest that the first goals you write should involve spiritual goals such as strengthening your personal prayer life or spending time in study of the Word or memorizing more scripture. You should then list your goals under specific goal categories such as spiritual goals, educational goals, business/career goals, financial goals and personal goals or other focus areas pertinent to you. Some practical suggestions for setting your goals are as follows:

1. Get a journal to write the goals in or a loose leaf notebook and divide the note book under the relevant categories. As Habakkuk 2: 1-4 records, we should “write the vision and make it plain…” so that “…he may run who reads it.”

2. Freelance writer, online columnist and former stay at home mom for 15 years, Patricia Chadwick, suggests that you get away by yourself for a day in order to really think about the goals you want to set for you and your family without any distractions. Alternatively, establish 2 or 3 hour sessions until you complete your assignment if you are unable to do this for a day. Turn off the phone and television. Do not go on the Internet –especially Facebook. To set her goals she uses a loose-leaf notebook with a yearly calendar in it and breaks the notebook into 12 categories.

3. Prayer warrior and writer, Cynthia Bezek, in the article “Plan to Grow” suggests that once your goals have emerged, consider each goal and find as many verses as you can to support that goal. Use the concordance to look up key words. Write relevant passages into your notebook. This process helped her to internalize what the Lord was teaching her.

4. Write down promises you may need to rely on and “eat” them in order for God to accomplish each goal in your life.

5. Write down specific action items you must undertake to accomplish your goal in a manner that will help you to measure your progress.

6. Make your goals S.M.A.R.T. — Specific (not just lose weight, but instead “lose 35 pounds”); Measurable (How will you know when the goal has been accomplished by how much or how many?); Attainable (Goal too out of reach may not be completed. 20lbs a week vs 4 lbs a week for the first two weeks ); Realistic (“never eat chocolate again” — , but better to say limit it to one day a week!); and Timely (set a date – If no date there is no commitment).

7. Throughout the year review the goal notebook to see how you’re doing. Make a note of the goals upon which you need to revise or begin work on. If you‘ve accomplished a goal, then check it off.

8. God is sovereignly in control of our future. He enables us by grace to pray about and pursue goals that agree with His perceived will for our lives. He has the ultimate say in our destiny. ( See James 4:13-17). God has the final say about our destiny and we must be prepared for God to make changes in our plans. His sovereignty is no excuse for our failure to step out in faith to write the vision and to take action to implement the vision He give us, or to procrastinate or to remain stagnant out of fear.

Remember to Make Your Goals S.M.A.R.T.

We must be clear about what, where, when and how we will achieve our goals. A useful acronym to apply to assist in setting effective goals and objectives is S.M.A.R.T.

The S in S.M.A.R.T. stands for Specific. Answer the 6 W’s – Who, What, Where, When, Which (identify requirements and constraints) and Why. Do not set the goal to broad. Be able to break it down to small achievable parts in a specific time period.

The M in S.M.A.R.T. stands for Measurable. What concrete criteria can we employ to measure our progress? It is important that the l goal be measurable. If the goal is not measurable then it will be hard to know if you have achieved it and you may give up because you do not know if you are making progress. Answer the questions —How much? How many? How will I know I have accomplished it.?

The A in S.M.A.R.T. stands for Attainable or Achievable. We must make an effective action plan. Begin to figure out ways to accomplish your goal. You goals should stretch you and cause you to grow and expand to reach them, but not be too lofty, although we know we can do all things with the help of the Lord. Goals need to be reasonable and achievable. For example, losing 15 pounds in 30 days is unrealistic (unless you’re planning a medical procedure). Losing six to eight pounds in 30 days is reasonable. Don’t set yourself up for failure by setting goals that are out of reach.

The R in S.M.A.R.T. stands for Realistic. It means the goal is “do-able” and that the skills are available to get the job done. Therefore, you are both willing and able to work to achieve the goal. A goal can be both high and realistic. Do you have the ability and commitment to make your dream come true? Or does it need a little adjustment?

The T in S.M.A.R.T. stands for Time. We must set specific time deadlines that allow a realistic and reasonable amount of time to accomplish each goal.

Everyone will benefit from goals and objectives if they are SMART.
Let’s declare that even if you did not start at the end of last year 2010 or the first of this year to write your goals, you are getting started today. Not another year of saying “shoulda-coulda-woulda” for the great things that should have been achieved, by me or by you. Let’s get started.

“Let’s Get Started: Take the Time to Pray and Write Your Goals”- Part II

He is always wrestling in prayer for you, that you may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured.” – Colossians 4:12b

Isaiah 32:8 says, “The noble man makes noble plans.”

Proverbs 16:3 promises, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.”

In response to my challenge in Part I of this article (https://ladyofprayer.com/?p=364) to each of us to take time to pray and write at least three goals you would like to accomplish this year, Dr. Deana Murphy, an award winning author and expert on life design wrote: “Amen Linda. The key to writing goals is prayer. He gives us the desires of our heart—which are His desires. This is so important. Thank you for sharing.” Indeed, “prayer is the key that opens the storehouse of God’s infinite grace and power”. R. A. Torrey.

Have you taken the time to pray, meditate and to map out at least three goals and the action steps you will take to achieve that goal? Now, if you haven’t written your goals for this year or have not taken any steps to achieve them, forget the past. Begin right now praying and thinking about writing your goals for the year. Take the time to seek God’s face first, pray, and meditate on the Word. Listen to what He states to you and write it down. I find this helps me to accomplish the things that are important to me. Sir Isaac Newton, wrote, “All of my discoveries have been made in answer to prayer.”

Some of your goals could be educational, financial, or involve career and business goals such as to write that book or to start a new business. However, first focus on what spiritual goals you would like to achieve which will strengthen your personal relationship with the Lord. “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things (temporal things, that is) will be added to you” (Matthew. 6:33). Setting spiritual goals can help you keep moving toward maturity. Accordingly, some spiritual goals you may have is to read the through the bible in one year, work on a particular character trait, or read a certain Christian book.

One key spiritual goal should be to improve your personal relationship with the Lord through bible study and improving your prayer life. God wants a relationship with us/you. We should press, stretch and get out of our comfort zones to maintain a prayer relationship with Him. It is the goal that will have eternal benefits. It is the goal that will give us power, wisdom and guidance about all of our other goals such as improving family relationships, getting out of debt, starting that business, writing that book, starting an exercise plan, or healing the relationships issues between black women and men. Prayer is the key to unlocking God’s power in your life to carry out what God has placed in our hearts.

Possibly you may want to grow even more in your prayer life such as praying more consistently on a daily basis instead of a hit or miss or crisis oriented prayer life or to develop your confidence in prayer. Prayer should not be a rushed moment in the morning. Prayer should be a way of life. If Jesus needed extended times of prayer retreat with God, how much more do we? As one prayer warrior remarked “if prayer is to become a way of life for us as it was for Him, we need to change our priorities so we have much more time for prayer”.

Perhaps you want to pray more Kingdom prayers or learn a whole new approach to prayer. Prayer is not exclusively asking God for things for you, but prayer is interceding for others. We should desire to pray Kingdom prayers to seek God for what God wants you to pray and do to carry out His purpose on earth. “If as disciples of Jesus Christ we are going to make a difference, then prayer in all of its expressions must become much more a part of our lives”.

It is my prayer that each of us will grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord (II Peter 3:18) and in our prayer lives. Hopefully you will write some specific goals for yourself in this area. In Part III we will discuss some practical suggestions for writing your goals, whatever they may be.

Prayer and Fasting: Lord Draw Me Into A Closer Walk With Thee

“Prayer is the key that opens the storehouse of God’s infinite grace and power”. R. A. Torrey

” But He draws close to us as we draw close to Him”. James 4:8

As you set your goals for 2011, let your first goal be to seek the Lord and to increase your walk with Him by increasing your prayer life and bible study. Matthew 6:33 AMP states , ” But seek first of all His Kingdom and His righteousness, and then all these things taken together will be given you besides”. Prayer

“Lord, I draw close to You today, grateful that You will draw close to me as You promised in your Word ( James 4:8). I long to dwell in your presense and my desire is for a deeper and more intimate relationship with You.
God help me to set aside time each day to meet with you alone… Teach me to pray the way You want me to. Help me to learn more about you. ( Portions of prayer taken from ‘The Power of A Praying Woman” by Stormie Omartian)

One prayer warrior Alvin J. Vander Griend calls prayer “the talking part of the most important love relationship of your life”. God loves you so that, although He is sovereign, He has decided that He wants a relationship with you and to commune with you. Prayer is an awesome privilege .Two reasons for prayer is to develop a relationship with God and to release God’s will on earth.

You want to draw closer to Him and to know Him? You need answers? You want God to guide you as you set and carry out your goals ? Come join the 21 Day of Prayer and Fasting with myself and Minetta Hare of Faith at Work Ministries. Below is information Missionary Hare has supplied about the 21 Day Prayer and Fasting Journey.

So you may be starting a little after January 1 ,2011 but you can still do the following :

1. Determine to spend quality time with the Lover of your soul every day. Decide to start out with half an hour and increase it slowly. Be diligent and be faithful. We can never grow or develop an intimate relationship with God unless we spend quality time with Him.
2. Have a journal. God has so much to speak into your life. It may not happen overnight if you haven’t been praying on a consistent basis. But remember He is right there listening. Prayer is a dialogue. He wants you to listen also. Don’t give up. He hears the prayers of the righteous who have accepted Him as Lord and Savior and have no inquity in their heart against another.
3. Join the Global Prayer Force 21 Day Fasting and Prayer Journey led by Missionary Minetta Hare of Faith at Work Ministries. Below is information on getting started on the Prayer and Fasting Journey.

Pray fervently ,

PRAYER FOCUS

Week 1 – January 1 – 7 Repent of your failings and shortcomings. Ask God to search your heart. Psalm 139: 23-24, Psalm 51.

Fasting is not just for the purpose of resolving specific problems. It has purpose of renewing and strengthening your relationship with God so that your everyday prayers can be more effective.

Week 2 – January 8 – 14 Pray and Intercede for Others and their Needs.

Week 3 – January 15 – 21 Boldly present Your Own Needs Before the Lord.

QUICK TIPS FOR FASTING
by Minetta Hare on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 2:56pm

Be sure to consult your doctor before beginning any fast, especially if you have any type of medical condition.

How to Begin Start with a clear goal. Be specific. Why are you fasting? Do you need direction, healing, restoration of marriage or family issues? Are you facing financial difficulties? Ask the Holy Spirit for guidance. Pray daily and read the Bible.

Preparing Spiritually Confess your sins to God. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal areas of weakness. Forgive all who have offended you and ask forgiveness from those you may have offended (Mark 11:25; Luke 11:4; 17:3-4). Surrender your life fully to Jesus Christ and reject the worldly desires that try to hinder you (Romans 12:1-2).

Deciding What to Fast The type of fasting you choose is up to you. You could go on a full fast in which you only drink liquids, or you may desire to fast like Daniel, who abstained from sweets and meats, and the only liquid he drank was water. Remember to replace that time with prayer and Bible study.

Deciding How Long You may fast as long as you like. Most can easily fast from one to three days, but you may feel the grace to go longer, even as much as 21 to 40 days. Use wisdom and pray for guidance. Beginners are advised to start slow.

What to Expect When you fast your body detoxifies, eliminating toxins from your system. This can cause mild discomfort such as headaches and irritability during withdrawal from caffeine and sugars. And naturally, you will have hunger pains. Limit your activity and exercise moderately. Take time to rest. Fasting brings about miraculous results. You are following Jesus’ example when you fast. Spend time listening to praise and worship. Pray as often as you can throughout the day. Get away from the normal distractions as much as possible and keep your heart and mind set on seeking God’s face.

How to End Don’t overeat when the time comes to end your fast. Begin eating solid food gradually; eat small portions or snacks.

PRAY, PRAY AND PRAY SOME MORE.

Worshiping Christ and Praying for His Rule/Presence Using His Names and Attributes

AN INVITATION TO CHRISTIANS ACROSS AMERICA:

TO UNITE IN WORSHIPING CHRIST AND IN PRAYING FOR HIS LORDSHIP IN EVERY PERSON, PLACE AND SITUATION IN OUR NATION

How: Worshiping Christ and Praying for His Rule/Presence Using 153 of His Names and Attributes

WHAT WE ARE PROPOSING WITH THESE NAMES AND ATTRIBUTES OF CHRIST

There are 153 names and attributes of Christ for which we will be praying and worshipping from now until the end of the year. (one for each day August 1 – December 31, 2010), The names and attributes of God are meant to be a “Portrait of Christ”, from the Old and New Testaments.    At this crucial time in history, He alone is our hope.  Man’s best plans and resources are grossly inadequate to overcome the challenges and needs of the Church and all people.

HOW EVERY CHRISTIAN CAN “FIX OUR EYES UPON JESUS” TOGETHER

1. Read the Scripture passage of the day a couple times and freshly devote ourselves to following Christ.

2. Worship Christ throughout each day according to His name/attribute of the day (be filled with awe and praise of His greatness and glory).

3. Pray continually (according to His name/attribute of the day) that Christ will rule in EVERY part of your life, in EVERY other person and situation He brings into your life throughout the day, and in EVERY person, place and situation that affects our nation.

What will God do if multitudes of believers saturate our spheres of influence with continuous worship of His beloved Son during the upc0ming 153 days?  What will God do in countless homes, churches, workplaces, schools, youth groups, local and national leaders, natural and manmade crises, the economy, and much more, if we fervently invite Christ to rule and reign in the authority of His names and attributes?   May we be desperate for the manifest presence of Christ.

Sunday August 29 to Saturday September 4

THE LORD THE KING

August 29 Psalm 98:4-9 Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music; make music to the Lord with the harp, with the harp and the sound of singing, with trumpets and the blast of the ram’s horn—shout for joy before the Lord, the King.  Let the sea resound, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.  Let the rivers clap their hands, let the mountains sing together for joy; let them sing before the Lord, for He comes to judge the earth.  He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples with equity.

A PRIEST FOREVER IN THE ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK

August 30 Psalm 110:1-7 The Lord says to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”  The Lord will extend your mighty scepter from Zion; you will rule in the midst of your enemies.  Your troop will be willing on your day of battle.  Arrayed in holy majesty, from the womb of the dawn you will receive the dew of your youth.  The Lord has sworn and will not change His mind: You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.”  The Lord is at your right hand; He will crush kings on the day of His wrath.  He will judge the nations, heaping up the dead and crushing the rulers of the whole earth.  He will drink from a brook beside the way; therefore He will lift up His head.

HOLY AND AWESOME

August 31 Psalm 111:1-10 Praise the Lord.  I will extol the Lord with all my heart in the council of the upright and in the assembly.  Great are the works of the Lord; they are pondered by all who delight in them.  Glorious and majestic are His deeds, and His righteousness endures forever.  He has caused His wonders to be remembered; the Lord is gracious and compassionate.  He provides food for those who fear Him; He remembers His covenant forever.  He has shown His people the power of His works, giving them the lands of other nations.  The works of His hands are faithful and just; all His precepts are trustworthy.  They are steadfast for ever and ever, done in faithfulness and uprightness.  He provided redemption for His people; He ordained His covenant forever–holy and awesome is His name.  The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow His precepts have good understanding.  To Him belongs eternal praise.

MY PORTION

September 1 Psalm 119:57-58, 62-64 You are my portion, O Lord; I have promised to obey your words.  I have sought your face with all my heart; be gracious to me according to your promise.  At midnight I rise to give you thanks for your righteous laws.  I am a friend to all who fear you, to all who follow your precepts.  The earth is filled with your love, O Lord; teach me your decrees.

THE MAKER OF HEAVEN AND EARTH

September 2 Psalm 121:1-8 I lift up my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from?  My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.  He will not let your foot slip—He who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.  The Lord watches over you—the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.  The Lord will keep you from all harm—He will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going, both now and forevermore.

THE BRANCH OF THE LORD

September 3 Isaiah 4:2 In that day the Branch of the Lord will be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the land will be the pride and glory of the survivors in Israel.

A CANOPY

September 4 Isaiah 4:5-6 The Lord will create over all of Mount Zion and over those who assemble there a cloud of smoke by day and a glow of flaming fire by night; over all the glory will be a canopy.  It will be a shelter and shade from the heat of the day, and a refuge and hiding place from the storm and rain.

The Lydia Circle “Down by the Riverside Morning Glory” Prayer Gathering August 28 at Hart Plaza at 7 AM

“Again I say unto you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven” ( Matt. 18:19 NKJV)

I love to  prayer corporately with my Lydia Circle Christian and Professional Buinsess Women or my intercessory prayer team at church. When we are on one accord in agreement on the prayer focus, even if the tune varies, it is heavenly, powerful and delivering.

Corporate prayer is important  to our Father because he wants believers to come together to pray. He wants to bring the church together to pray. He gives  a promise of faithfulness and more to those who are willing to press their way to come together to pray on one accord in “agreement”. Praying women and men in agreement energizes our praying.

The scripture lets us know that  a special power is promised  through corporate prayer. God can do things through agreeing prayers of the church , just like we see in the book of Acts when the church  came together, that He may not do(  He is sovereign ) through individual efforts.  Author Sue Curran wrote in “The Power of Agreement in Corporate Prayer” as follows:

The prayer ministry of the church accomplishes much. The prayer gathering does more than enlarge the channel through which God will bless and give victory to His people; it actually moves us into an entirely different realm of power.

...

We move in  a realm in which results are calculated exponentially. We move from the realm of addition to that of  multiplication. …Corporate praying is the key to exponential power in prayer.  See Sue Curran “the Praying Church: Principles and Power of Corporate Praying”.

When every one is praying in “symphony” and is playing the same piece- a concert, according to the will of  God , He moves to answer, deliever and heal.

If you cannot attend this prayer gathering, join us where you are and let us know . Send your prayer focus  or requests to ldfaygo@aol.com or post them in the comment
